Description
Global demand for honey has been rising over recent decades at an increasing rate – driven by the growing awareness to the benefits of consuming healthier natural foods, among them – honey.
Located on the coast of East Africa, Tanzania is a regional leader in the production of bee products – honey and bee wax, second only to Ethiopia – the largest honey producer in Africa.
It is estimated that due to Tanzania’s vast land resources and access to water, the country’s beekeeping sector has the capacity to produce 130,000 tons of honey a year, potentially making Tanzania the second largest producer of honey in the world. This potential, however, remains untapped.
