Description
Situated on the coast of East Africa, Tanzania’s climate is ideal for fish farming and the aquaculture sector offers a yet untapped potential for growth. As the demand for fish is rapidly rising due to accelerated population growth in the region — wild catch is unable to meet the growing demand and natural water bodies are quickly becoming over-fished.
These combined factors have been driving up fish prices; making fish less affordable for the lower- and middle-income segments of the population; and contributing to a projected annual deficit in fish supply of over 300,000 tons, providing a lucrative economic opportunity for fish farmed locally.
This MAV Analysis report takes a deeper look at the Aquaculture Industry in Tanzania.
